In this series of publications, we review individual multifunctional ingredients—our “heroes”—that are essential to modern cosmetic formulating. These ingredients are tasked not only with ensuring product safety but also with simplifying the development process and enhancing the final user experience. The focus of this publication is Propanediol Benzoate (3-Hydroxypropyl Benzoate). 

This article explores the role of Propanediol Benzoate (Savelite^® HB) in cosmetic formulations. It examines its value-added properties, including its contribution to product protection strategies, its role in supporting formulation stability, its specific benefits in hair care applications, and its contribution to maintaining a healthy, moisturized skin ecosystem as a multifunctional. In addition, its relevance for supporting more sustainable formulation approaches is discussed. These aspects are presented in light of available literature and supporting technical data.
