One cause of skin dullness is the uneven skin tone, which results from the combination of three color tones on the skin: brown, due to Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs); gray, caused by abnormal keratinization; and black, resulting from hyperpigmentation. So, how can we address these complex contributors to uneven tone? Surprisingly, AGEs interact with the Receptor of AGEs (RAGE), triggering a signaling cascade in melanocytes and keratinocytes that induces both hyperpigmentation and abnormal keratinization—like a domino effect. This suggests that inhibiting the AGEs-RAGE domino effect could be a simple yet powerful strategy to achieve a more even and radiant skin tone. ICHIMARU PHARCOS sought a natural material that inhibits the AGEs-RAGE interaction and discovered that an extract of Peonia albiflora roots has this ability. As a result, we launched the natural cosmetic ingredient “PeoGlow”. PeoGlow reduces the accumulation of AGES and blocks the AGEs-RAGE interaction, helping to achieve a more even, radiant skin tone.
