Beautiful Empathy - Where AI Elevates Beauty from Lab to Experience without Losing the Human Touch

An interview with
the Vantage Formulations Team

How does your “Beautiful Empathy” concept redefine the way beauty products are developed and experienced, and what role do AI and human creativity play in shaping more personalized haircare solutions?

As AI grows, we increasingly see two sides emerging. On one hand, AI is enhancing product development and customer experience, acting as a product catalyst that accelerates research, formulation proposals and 360° design spanning formulation, quality and forecasting, while also driving customization at scale.

However, as with any boom, there are limitations. AI gives us access only to what already exists, reinforcing existing recommendations and beauty standards. This puts new generations at risk of facing increasingly unreachable ideals, “Miss AI” being a telling example. Data reach is also a constant concern, posing risks to brand reputation and transparency. And perhaps most critically, there is the danger of over-reliance, with younger generations replacing experts and medical professionals with AI.

Why is scalp health becoming such a central focus in modern haircare, and how does SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD address emerging consumer needs in this space?

Scalp health has become a major focus in modern haircare because consumers and researchers increasingly recognize that healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. The scalp is now viewed less as “just skin beneath the hair” and more as a dynamic physiological environment that directly influences hair growth, density, strength, and long-term hair quality.

SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD addresses growing consumer demand for scalp-first haircare by protecting the scalp against oxidative stress and inflammation, two key factors linked to hair thinning and premature hair aging. Its optimized composition with botanical extracts, resveratrol and jojoba esters helps improve scalp comfort by strengthening the scalp barrier and visibly enhance hair density and thickness over time.

SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD is positioned as a next-generation antioxidant active. Can you explain how it protects the scalp from environmental stressors and supports long-term hair density and strength?

SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD was developed to protect the scalp against oxidative stress and inflammation caused by daily environmental aggressors such as UV exposure, pollution, microbiome imbalance, and harsh cosmetic treatments. These stressors generate reactive oxygen species, which activate inflammatory pathways that can weaken the scalp barrier, disrupt the hair follicle, and contribute to hair thinning and premature hair aging.

To address this, SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD combines potent botanical extracts, jojoba esters, and resveratrol in a unique oil-soluble complex which promotes cells viability while reducing Caspase-1 expression, a key protein involved in cellular inflammation. By improving overall scalp condition and protecting the hair follicle environment, the ingredient supports healthier, stronger-looking hair over time.

What would you consider the foundations of an optimal scalp care routine?

SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD can be added at any stage of the scalp care routine.

A recommended routine starts with a pre-wash scalp oil that nourishes and soothes the scalp while helping reduce visible signs of irritation linked to environmental stressors. Formulated with antioxidant-rich natural extracts and jojoba esters, ingredients such as DW JOJOBA GOLDEN and LIPOVOL™ ORIGIN CACAY help deliver hydration and lightweight care for both scalp and hair.

The routine can then continue with gentle cleansing using mild surfactants such as METAUPON™, which effectively remove impurities and excess oil without disrupting the scalp barrier or causing dryness. Jojoba oil can also be incorporated into cleansing systems to support scalp comfort and help maintain the skin’s natural lipid balance.

Regular scalp exfoliation is also important to remove dead skin cells, excess sebum, and product buildup that may contribute to discomfort and microbiome imbalance. Ingredients such as CURAZELIC® 44, together with jojoba-based exfoliating particles or esters, help support gentle exfoliation while promoting a cleaner and healthier scalp environment.

To complete the routine, SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD helps protect the scalp against oxidative stress caused by UV exposure and pollution, while supporting barrier function and improving overall hair quality, density, and strength over time.

Together, this type of routine helps maintain a balanced, comfortable, and healthy scalp environment that supports long-term hair health and longevity.

Looking ahead, how do you see the role of advanced actives like SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD evolving in the future of haircare, particularly in the context of longevity, prevention, and “pre-juvenation”?

Advanced actives such as SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of haircare as the category shifts from corrective treatments toward prevention. Consumers are increasingly looking for daily scalp care solutions that help protect against oxidative stress and inflammation before visible signs of hair aging, thinning, or scalp discomfort appear.

This is where scalp-focused actives become especially relevant. By helping protect the scalp environment and reinforce the scalp barrier, ingredients like SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD support healthier, stronger-looking hair over time through a skincare-inspired approach to scalp wellness.

At the same time, sensory performance is a key challenge in scalp care. Consumers want leave-on scalp treatments that are not only highly effective, but also lightweight and comfortable enough for daily use, without leaving an oily or greasy feel on the scalp or hair. SCALPHIX™ OX-GUARD was also designed with this in mind, offering a pleasant sensory profile that allows easy incorporation into elegant leave-on scalp care formulations.

Looking ahead, we believe scalp actives will continue evolving toward multifunctional solutions that combine barrier support, microbiome care, anti-inflammatory benefits, environmental and UV protection, and visible hair performance. As awareness around scalp aging and sun exposure grows, SPF protection for the scalp is expected to become an increasingly important category within preventive haircare. Future innovation will likely focus not only on efficacy, but also on sensory experience, long-term scalp wellness, and seamless integration into daily routines.
