New enzyme class innovation helps prolong garment life and reduce textile waste – plus, don’t miss a must-see talk on the science behind it
IFF Health & Biosciences will return to SEPAWA Congress 2025 to present its latest developments in fabric care. At booths B303-B305, visitors can explore the company’s latest enzyme advancement for fabric care, Polyesterase. Plus, as part of the SEPAWA Forum for Innovation, IFF Health & Biosciences will showcase the science behind the innovation, exploring how it can prevent pilling in polyester textiles.
A next-generation enzyme for fabric care
Over the past decade, demand for polyester fibers has surpassed that of cotton; in 2024 polyester reached 57% of the global total fiber production and is expected to stay the industry’s dominant fiber.[1] Polyesterase is an enzyme designed to target one of the most common causes of premature clothing disposal: pilling. Thanks to its mild degrading action on the amorphous parts of polyester fibres, Polyesterase helps prevent or reduce pilling on polyester and polyester-cotton blends. The result is clothes that stay looking new for longer – with less wear and tear and more washes. What’s more, this enzyme is a valuable new tool for brands developing advanced laundry solutions that align with consumer expectations. Marking the development of a brand-new enzyme class, this innovation will be on display at IFF’s booth, where experts will share how it meets evolving consumer needs for performance, garment longevity and reduced environmental impact.

At SEPAWA 2025’s Forum for Innovation, Tatiana Goncharova, Global business segment leader for Laundry at IFF Health & Biosciences, will present her talk, “A New Dimension in Fabric Care: Polyesterase”, covering the growing challenges associated with polyester-based fabrics and how IFF’s novel enzyme solution could help overcome them. Attendees will gain insight into the science behind Polyesterase, how it works to reduce pilling, and its potential to support longer-lasting clothing through improved laundry formulations. Tatiana’s talk will take place on 17 October 2025, at 11:45 in Room 1.
